News Release

AppZero for SAP Automates Application Management, Deployment to Cloud

Andover, MA, Mar. 3, 2010 - Server application virtualization pioneer AppZero has released AppZero for SAP, designed to reduce SAP application and suite installation time from days to less than 15 minutes for instantaneous deployment across physical and virtual servers and to cloud computing environments, such as Amazon EC2.

AppZero for SAP enables systems integrators, VARs, software vendors and enterprises to install their SAP applications - from SAP All-in-One to full ECC - into an AppZero Virtual Application Appliance (VAA).  VAAs decouple an application from the operating system, encapsulating it with all of its dependencies, but zero operating system.  Once created, the VAA becomes a gold image or single point of management that can be moved from system to system, stored anywhere, and deployed at the click of a mouse among servers - physical or virtual, on-premise or in the cloud.

With AppZero for SAP, implementing or adapting SAP suites - once a time-consuming, costly process of retyping, revising and evaluating - can be reduced to less than 15 minutes.  A full SAP ECC 6.0 ERP suite can be provisioned in minutes, cloned, and moved to a pay-as-you go cloud environment.  For further configuration and development, a change of SID and/or host name can now be achieved without using the traditional "Heterogeneous System Copy."   SAP applications can more readily be delivered to a test lab for user acceptance.  Should more development be required, a new VAA can be provisioned instantaneously, from a standard storage repository.

"To our customers, performance matters!" said Christopher Carter, CTO of solutions provider HiLn.  "By utilizing our Silver Lining Cloud Solution our customers have the ability to start, stop, reuse or throw away and start anew in minutes for each SAP cloud, which only leads to greater levels of reliability."

"Improving performance cannot be achieved solely by adding hardware," said Carter. "SAP applications and deployment stacks are complex and must be tested under real world load conditions to assess what actual performance will be in production. Having a process that ensures systems are tested is an essential element of cloud computing development, and by working with AppZero we have achieved this for the SAP eco-system."

Industry watchers say demand is high for tools that automate application release management - moving applications from development to quality assurance and test to production environments, or updating them without errors.   Such automation is being driven by the requirements of large organizations that operate in physical, virtual and cloud environments.

"Setting up SAP environments requires the physical or virtual infrastructure to host them, and typically, one to two weeks simply to install the software to evaluate just one scenario," said AppZero president and CEO Greg O'Connor.  "Implementation costs for these suites can run into the millions or even tens of millions of dollars. AppZero for SAP VAAs enable these applications to work identically in a physical, virtual, or cloud environment - eliminating infrastructure bottlenecks that often plague such large projects," O'Connor said.

About AppZero

AppZero software virtualizes Windows and UNIX server applications for nearly instant provisioning as services across a network, on any server (physical or virtual), in the datacenter or in the cloud. First to market with a toolset for virtualizing server-side applications, AppZero has pioneered the Virtual Application Appliance (VAA), in which an application is encapsulated with all of its dependencies - but without any operating system (OS) component. The result is server applications that are 100% portable with zero footprint and performance near native levels. For enterprises and ISVs intrigued by the capital-free potential of pay-as-you-go-computing, AppZero provides a smooth on-ramp to the cloud without any cloud lock-in. Requiring no modification to existing applications, AppZero makes it technically easy and economically sensible to explore and exploit cloud computing. Become an AppZero Fan on Facebook.
