AppZero Announces Recapitalization and New Chairman

Former DataMirror CEO and Chairman invests in AppZero and is appointed Chairman

Boston, MA and Ottawa, Canada, September 7, 2010 - AppZero today announced that Mr. Nigel Stokes, former CEO and Chairman of Data Integration software vendor DataMirror (TSX: DMC and Nasdaq: DMCX, acquired by IBM), has become the controlling and majority investor in application virtualization pioneer, AppZero.  Mr Stokes will also serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

AppZero is widely recognized for its Virtual Application Appliance (VAA) technology.  The solution encapsulates server applications, enabling them to move seamlessly from datacenters to clouds and back, across both physical and virtual servers.  AppZero VAAs provide tangible paybacks by simplifying datacenter management and reducing the operating costs associated with the proliferation of virtual machines and cloud environments.

AppZero is recognized by AlwaysOn as an OnDemand Top 100 winner and as a "Best Business Application" by Computerworld. The company is a Demo favorite of PCWorld and eWeek and also of Next Big Thing blogger Don Dodge.  AppZero was named one of the "20 Coolest Cloud Computing Infrastructure Vendors" by CRN, as well as a "Top 25 Cloud Services Provider" by Virtualization Journal, and a "Top 7 Cloud Computing Acquisition Target" by Datamation.

"Just as server virtualization fundamentally changed how computing resources could be used in the datacenter and on the internet, application virtualization will redefine portability, scalability and compatibility in the movement of application to private and public clouds.  It is clear that the AppZero solution is strategically valuable.  The solution is broadly endorsed by key influencers, business partners, ISVs, Managed Service Providers and end-customers. We will commercialize and leverage the investment in AppZero to grow the new company," said the new Chairman Nigel Stokes.  "I am pleased to be partnering with existing shareholders VenGrowth and Growthworks, who contributed to the new financing, along with new AppZero shareholders and Board members.  I know Greg from his time at Progress Software (Nasdaq: PRGS) and look forward to working with him and the rest of the AppZero team to drive commercial adoption of this important solution."

"The maturity of AppZero's technology and the market it addresses form a logical inflection point for Nigel's coming on board, "said Greg O'Connor, AppZero CEO.  "In the past year, conversations with enterprises have moved decidedly from the 'if' to the 'how' of virtualization - from infrastructure to application.  Going forward, we will emphasize our clear message: AppZero puts control firmly into the hands of IT as it moves through the transforming era of virtualization."

About AppZero

AppZero News Release

AppZero Named One of “100 Coolest Cloud Computing Products” by CRN

Andover, MA, January 26, 2010 - AppZero today announced that Everything Channel's CRN has named its server-side application virtualization software one of the "100 Coolest Cloud Computing Products."  The Top 100 Cloud Computing products include 20 storage vendors, 20 security vendors, 20 productivity vendors, 20 infrastructure vendors and 20 platform vendors.

AppZero technology encapsulates a server application in a Virtual Application Appliance (VAA), which contains all of the application's dependencies, but with zero operating system (OS) component. The VAA, freed from any OS encumbrance, can move seamlessly from data center to, and among, clouds and back across both physical and virtual servers.

"AppZero's mobility of server-side applications makes it easy for enterprise data centers to instantaneously provision a single copy of a "gold" application image to 1,000s of machines in the data center and/or to any cloud or combination of clouds, says Greg O'Connor, AppZero CEO. "This automation of installation and configuration of server applications speeds deployment, reduces errors, and cuts the need for a human touch."

The list was based on nominations from Solution Providers rating technology, channel influence, effectiveness and visibility along with business and sales impact. The final selections were made by a panel of Everything Channel Editors.

Winners were announced online at Channelweb.com and will be featured in the January 25 issue of CRN.

AppZero and HyNote Feature One Click Movement of EPM applications to/from Data Center and Cloud

Andover, MA, October 21, 2009 -Today, AppZero, pioneer in server-side application virtualization, announced that it will join performance management and business intelligence innovator HyNote to showcase one click movement of enterprise performance management (EPM) to the datacenter from the cloud in a webinar on October 28th. Beginning at 11:00 am EST, AppZero CEO Greg O'Connor will team with HyNote's president, Mike Dayton, to explore the groundbreaking EPM value proposition the companies combine to offer.

AppZero's server-side application virtualization technology is the basis for HyNote's AppTransport capability. With AppTransport, HyNote customers can explore and develop EPM functionality hosted on Amazon's EC2 Cloud - secure in the knowledge that when the time comes to move the application into production, a simple mouse click moves it from the Amazon cloud to enterprise server.

Specializing in EPM applications based on Oracle's EPM and Business Intelligence suite of offerings, including Essbase and other Hyperion applications, HyNote's EPMCloud platform capitalizes on the technological innovations of AppZero to smooth the path between exploration/experimentation and adoption for its customers. AppZero's ability to seamlessly capture, package and deliver cloud-based instances of EPM to production servers frees HyNote customers to enjoy continuity and full utilization of effort from early stage evaluation and proof of concept development to production application implementation and deployment.

AppZero CEO Greg O'Connor said, "EPM is a processing-intensive application that has high strategic value. By its nature, it must be highly personalized to the needs and strategic goals of each using organization to reap that value. HyNote is wisely making it easy for potential customers to test drive EPM on Amazon. AppZero makes it just as easy to capture all the labor and innovation that was invested delivering a production-ready application to the production environment with one click."

AppZero News Release

Featured in 451 Group Report on Server Application Virtualization, Mobility Between Clouds

Andover, Mass., April 27, 2009 - A report by The 451 Group has cited AppZero for its ability to virtualize server-based applications so they can be easily moved between physical or virtual servers in the datacenter or to and between cloud computing environments, such as GoGrid or Amazon EC2.

AppZero's Virtual Application Appliances (VAAs) decouple server applications from their operating systems so they can be accessed on any server or moved from one environment to another as quickly as business circumstances require. This mobility and real-time provisioning dramatically simplifies software deployment, operation, and management. It reduces the number of images IT departments have to manage, allowing an application to be deployed on any machine in a matter of seconds and creating clear separation of rolls between system administrators and application owners. Application lifecycle automation also becomes more flexible, and workloads can be provisioned to scale or de-scale to any machine, anywhere. As organizations move to cloud computing, this type of elastic provisioning enables server applications to be moved to whichever cloud makes business and financial sense, effectively removing cloud service lock-in.

According to the report, AppZero differs from desktop technologies at the operating system and application virtualization level and is designed to provide mobility within a datacenter, between a primary and backup site or across internal resources and those provided by clouds such as Amazon Web services or a GoGrid. AppZero will transform the process by which server applications are provisioned and deployed, just as InstallFree, Microsoft App-V, Symantec SVS, Xenocode and others have done for Windows desktop clients.

AppZero supports Linux, Solaris and Windows 2003 and Server 2008, 32 and 64 bit infrastructures. The full report, issued April 15, 2009, can be accessed by 451 customers at www.the451group.com.
